"We Believe In The Value of Mentoring"

Why Mentor?

Why Be a Mentor?

For just a few hours a couple of times a month, you can help a child succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Saskatoon is different from other mentoring organizations in that we seek volunteers who are committed and consistent, willing to serve at least a year, but we hope until a child graduates high school. Studies show that by doing so, our mentoring services help kids stay in school, avoid risky behaviors, and experience first-hand the importance of helping others in their community.

Professional staff is there to work with you, the child and the family throughout the course of the mentoring relationship to provide necessary training and support. Funding allows us to carefully make and support more matches. Sometimes, the supply of volunteers and kids is greater than the necessary agency funding. We are grateful for your willingness to be involved and while it is certainly not a requirement, we welcome you to also become a donor -  as you volunteer or wait to be matched.

Our agency is driven by volunteers. If you decide that you are not ready to be a mentor at this time, there are many ways you can help out!

If you have a special skill or idea to share with us, let us know.

If you only hav a few hours to spare, let us know what you'd like to do or read on for some ideas.

We would like to help you find a way that you can support the children and mentors in our organization. There are so many ways in which you can volunteer:

  • volunteer at one of our fundraisers

  • help out at an event or party for our Bigs and Littles

  • donate refreshments or prizes to an event

  • host or organize a fundraiser to benefit our programs

  • ask us to speak to your group, employees, or club to promote our programs

  • promote our organization by having our brochures at your facility

  • advertise our organization as part of your advertising campaign, or inlcude us in your newsletter to clients, or community members.

  • apply to become a board member
