Making A Match: Alix's Story

It was an In-School Mentoring program that first brought Alix and her mentee together. Alix, a student from the Edwards School of Business, was looking for a fun and flexible volunteer experience to fit her busy school schedule.

When the opportunity to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters presented itself, Alix signed up immediately. 2 years later, she's reminded every week how much that decision changed her life.

Throughout the school year, Alix and her mentee meet to try and take on a new and fun activity together. Sometimes this means making bracelets and doing sports together. But most often, the two can be found in the kitchen, trying to come up with new and delicious dessert recipe.

Though these activities are short and simple their impact is anything but. Mentoring has translated itself as a weekly pinnacle of excitement for Alix's mentee.

"She is one of my best friends, always so thoughtful and encouraging"her mentee enthusiastically describes.
For Alix, she often happily reflects on her decision to volunteer with BBBS, thinking of how 1hr per week is all it took to change her life and the life of her mentee forever.

"Mentoring with BBBS has been an amazing experience. My mentee has made a big impact in my life and has become just like a sister to me."
